A coffee with Ravish Jawalapersad, intern Business & Talent since February! Meet Ravish and learn what keeps him busy, and how he experiences working in Utrecht and at the Utrecht Convention Bureau!
How do you like your coffee in the morning?
“I have to say that I am not the biggest coffee drinker. So in the morning, for example during a meeting, I love a nice cup of tea or a bottle of cold water! On its time, a cappuccino will go down well!”
Tell us more about your role at UCB / Utrecht Marketing
“I am an intern at the Utrecht Convention Bureau, part of Utrecht Marketing. Here I help promote Utrecht as an attractive destination for conventions and business events. With our department we want to attract as many international congresses/events to Utrecht as possible, to stimulate business tourism in this way. I also have a share in compiling the UCB’s newsletters and social media posts. A cool position to hold!”
What are you currently working on / heading towards?
“I am working on my internship assignments at the Utrecht Convention Bureau (UCB) and learning a lot about event management and business tourism. Right now we are working on an awful lot of ‘bids’ to bring certain international conventions to Utrecht.
At school we teach students a lot about leisure tourism, but the business part is often left out. My goal is to gain valuable experience in this (business) sector.”
What is your favorite place in the Utrecht region?
“Being from Rotterdam myself, I personally really enjoy having 4 days a week to get to know this vibrant city. During my internship I learn a lot about Utrecht, and come across beautiful places in the city. Ultimately, the Dom Tower remains a favorite spot for me, because the tower is an iconic symbol of the city. Especially this year, as the Dom Tower is gradually being removed from its scaffolding, it is interesting to make a tour of the Dom Square from time to time. The fact that Utrecht Marketing operates the Dom Tower is a nice bonus though!”
Who would you like to have a cup of coffee with?
“I think with the prime minister of the country. I’m so curious to know what’s on his mind early in the morning. Can he have a cup of coffee in peace when he gets up? Maybe even with Willem Alexander! I wonder if they are “the same” as the (normal) people of the country in that area. I would have a lot of questions haha!”
